Project Description

Berlin's Beyond-3G Testbed and Serviceware Framework for Advanced Mobile Solutions

The BIB3R project has as one of its goals to take into account all layers and dimensions of future networks and services and to develop innovative solutions which are usable by developers and useful for users despite the heterogeneity and complexity of the network infrastructure and the numerous requirements for features that next generation services have to possess.

BIB3R

The BIB3R network infrastructure is analogous to that of a future network provider, where services and solutions already existing today for this upcoming heterogeneous environment can be tested and developed. Based on this infrastructure, solutions for mobility support and management of heterogeneous networks are developed.

Thus, issues such as the following are gaining importance:

  • mobility management
  • quality of service (QoS)
  • AAA (authentication, authorization, and accounting)
  • integration of packet switched and circuit switched networks

On top of this infrastructure the Serviceware Framework will be developed which has to satisfy the requirements of future trends. The Serviceware Framework will support the service developer in all phases of development and presentation of mobile services namely: analysis, design, implementation, test und deployment.

A process model guarantees the efficiency und effectiveness of the development. The mobile services of the Next Generation must fulfill a range of features such as:

  • security
  • device independence
  • adaptivity
  • personalization
  • context awareness
  • community support
  • extensibility

just to name a few.

Those features are kept in mind during the development of the serviceware framework in order to assure that mobile services are equipped with the desired features. A high reusability is also guaranteed by making the feature implementation modular and component-based.

On top of the Serviceware Framework, a few Demonstrator Applications will be developed, in order to be able to validate the performance of the infrastructure and to check the conformance and pitfalls in the services developed. Our aim is to assure that we have achieved the desired features in those developed services.
